Walk Notes
The route for this walk is circular starting and ending at Bengate where the Weavers Way departs from the former track bed of the M&GN Railway to head to White Horse Common. There is a car park at this point, accessed from the main road. Alternatively one can extend the walk from North Walsham following the Weavers Way which was the chosen method on this particular day.
The highlight of the Weavers Way section is undoubtedly Honing station which has been restored from the undergrowth. Although not restored in the usual fashion, time and effort has been made to excavate what remains of the buildings to provide the essence of the station, together with information boards that piece these remnants together to give a full picture of what this rural station looked like in years gone by.
The walk around the huge curve made by the Dilham canal is truly one of Norfolks little secrets. A delightful walk alongside the water course with wildlife and flora and fauna to keep ones eyes interested. Patches of woodland intermingle with marsh and meadow. It should be stated that the path may become inaccessible during wet periods.
At the end of the river walk the route continues into Dilham village where the Cross Keys pub offers food and ale. On this particular occasion they had a local IPA from Wildcraft brewery which was a pleasign and full flavoured pint of beer.
